The Devonshire Red is everything a chicken should be. A lively, robust and slow growing breed reared only on West Country family-run farms in three higher welfare systems.
The Devonshire Red breed is exclusive to the West Country operation of poultry company 2 Sisters Food Group., which supplies supermarkets nationwide.
In 2003 the Devonshire breed - now known as the Devonshire Red - was introduced to the West Country organic and free range farms that now supply 2 Sisters and then, in 2004, to those rearing chicken to the RSPCA's Freedom Food accredited standard.
The Devonshire Red's characteristic strong legs, slower growth rate and naturally inquisitive nature make it ideal for these specialist production systems, producing a table bird that has a fabulous flavour and succulent texture.
