2007 Spring

The pond is filling well Swallows have invaided the fam buildings

In Rushy Mead we now have one large pond with a very big island, three smaller ponds and an unspoilt marsh. We've also made a bridge to the island which has been 'fox proofed' by leaving a gap in the middle. This will help protect the ducks and Canada geese that are already using the island as a regular resting place, plus the other wildlife we hope will take up residence.

Back at the farm buildings we seem to have a swallow invasion. Some twenty years ago there were ten pairs of house martins nesting around the farmhouse and one or two pairs of swallows in the outbuildings. This year we had around six pairs of swallows , which arrived in late March and are already rearing their first brood, and no house martins.
