Farms and farming

All Lloyd Maunder chicken are produced on small family-run farms in the West Country.  The company works with 157 farms in total, scattered around Devon and into Somerset and Cornwall – all within two hours of the processing plant at Willand.

Since 1957, when Percy Maunder and his son John first approached a few Devon farmers about supplying an emerging retail market with affordable chicken, Lloyd Maunder Ltd. has always been supplied by local farmers.

Today, farmers produce their chicken through PD Hook Ltd., the agricultural partner of Lloyd Maunder's parent company 2 Sisters Food Group.

All Lloyd Maunder chicken originate from PD Hook's own brooder farms and are hatched at its hatchery near Kentisbeare.

In 2006, Lloyd Maunder and Duchy College joined forces to develop an NVQ Level Three qualification which is now a requirement for all farmers supplying chicken to the company.
